The Story School: The Power of Story Based Education
The Story School was formed in 2013 by a group of teachers, parents and coaches. As a 501c3 nonprofit, the Story School’s mission is to increase awareness of the benefits of story based education through events and workshops.
Originally conceived of by Meghan Gardner and Jeff Wegman, owners of Guard Up Family Swordsmanship in Burlington, MA, the Story School allows students and campers to experience a higher level of education through story-based interactive adventures.
Many of the Guard Up staff also volunteer their time to develop curriculum and run programs that allow access for campers and students with limited income.
The Story School is a licensed provider of Guard Up programs and camps. To prevent a conflict of interest, The Story School is the recipient of fundraising and donations from Guard Up, but does not provide monetary scholarships to Guard Up programs or camps. As such, the camps and programs that are run by The Story School allow for campers and attendees to apply for scholarships through The Story School itself. (IE: Guard Up can give money to The Story School, but the Story School cannot give money to Guard Up).
We invite teachers, parents, and college students studying for their M. Ed. to join us in reaching children and teens with creative, exciting, and memorable adventures that teach academics as well as life skills. Story based education is a powerful method for increasing comprehension and retention. Please contact us at the tab above for more information.
